Glaciers in Ohio changed the shape of the land. Glaciers dug out Lake Erie and flattened the land in the till plains. When the glaciers retreated (melted), the melt water filled lakes and rivers leaving behind rich soil good for farming.

Archaic Indians lived in Ohio's thick forests. They hunted smaller and faster forest animals now that the mega-animals were extinct with the end of the Ice Age.
